WhiteHouse Conference on Aging

The Leopard Spot

In December of 2005 I was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging which meets every 10 years and is responsible for presenting to Congress and the Executive Branch issues as well as solutions to these issues as it relates to the aging population. Some of the key resolutions we passed are as follows:
1. Reauthorize the Older Americans Act
2. Come up with transportation options for Seniors
3. Improve Medicare & Medicaid
4. Require geriatric education & training
5. Provide more healthcare personnel
6. Address issues involving mental health & depression
7. Provide support for caregivers of Seniors
8. Remove barriers to hiring older workers
9. Prevent and prosecute elder abuse
10. Assure health care is available in rural areas
11. Enhance volunteer and civic engagements of Seniors
12. Require disaster response plan for Seniors
13. Provide medical and aging research
14. Provide appropriate healthcare for our veterans
15. Address elder financial crime
16. Provide accountability of guardians

One of our resolutions is accountability on the part of Congress to implement these resolutions.

Let’s get ready for “Gerontopia”
